Fried Cabbage with Bacon

A simple and easy side dish that can be made in no time! Made with bacon, onions, and garlic pepper, this Southern-style recipe won't disappoint and makes weeknight meals even better!

Ingredients
- 8 slices bacon, uncooked and chopped
- 1 medium yellow onion, diced
- 1 medium bell pepper, diced
- 1 Tbsp Course Garlic Pepper (SKU 102610)
- 1 large head of cabbage, cored and sliced
- ½ cup chicken stock or broth
- 2 Tbsp apple cider vinegar
- 1 tsp liquid smoke, optional
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- ½ tsp paprika
- kosher salt, to taste
Instructions
- Heat a large cast-iron skillet on medium-high heat. Add the chopped bacon and cook until browned and crispy. Transfer to a small bowl and set aside. Leave the bacon drippings in the skillet.
- Add chopped onions and bell peppers to the skillet. Sauté until soft and caramelized (about 6 - 8 minutes).
- Add sliced cabbage and sauté until ¾ of the way cooked (about 8 - 10 minutes) making sure to stir occasionally. The cabbage should become slightly browned.
- Add cooked bacon back into the skillet and mix. Season the mixture with Course Garlic Pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, and paprika and stir.
- Add chicken stock or broth, apple cider vinegar, and liquid smoke. Cook until the liquid has fully evaporated. Make sure to stir occasionally.
- Season to taste with kosher salt. Serve with your favorite meal and enjoy! Simple and delicious!
